BirdmanBIRDMAN (ZURICH FILM FESTIVAL)

A faux single-shot black comedy full of hateful people and their irritating opinions. Plenty of laughs and drumming while Michael Tweaton loses his mind.

9/10

beforeBEFORE I GO TO SLEEP

An intriguing thriller which seems intent on removing all tension as soon as anything builds. I’d quite like to go to sleep and forget it.

TheKeeperTHE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES

A rudimentary Danish detective film which ticks all the boxes for a watchable TV series.  Occasionally chilling with some very loud noises.

5/10

A tense but unrewarding by-the-numbers post-apocalyptic buddy movie (The Brover).

LINCOLN

Ddl Oscar vehicle. Lots of zooming in on Lincolns face while he says inspirational things to a soundtrack of light trumpet music. Very good. 9/10

HitchcockHITCHCOCK

Not very likeable character. But a likeable plot. 6/10

DjangoDJANGO UNCHAINED
Not bad. Brilliant first hour let down by plodding conclusion for the remaining two. 7/10

LES MISÉRABLES

Lots of joyless terrible singing vs a couple of beautiful moments. 6/10
